It's a vicious cycle: If a child has poor self-esteem and low
expectations, her behavior will reflect those attitudes.
The emPOWERment project interrupts this cycle and
replaces self-defeating attitudes, so that
 | | respect for self and others becomes a habit
|
 | | learning expectations rise
|
 | | efforts and experiences have successful outcomes
|
 | | respect is thereby reinforced, enabling progressive |
| | cycles of greater success and satisfaction

The habit of respect — developed, reinforced, and
practiced year after year — promotes academic, personal,
and professional confidence and success.
It is well documented that young people who habitually
show respect for themselves and others are more likely
than their peers to enjoy school, stay in school, and find
satisfaction in their careers and personal lives. In the
emPOWERment project's program Respect and
Manners at School and Work, students learn to
respect themselves and others and to make a habit of
demonstrating respect in every interaction.
